HMS COLLINGWOOD Open Day 2016

HMS COLLINGWOOD Open Day 2016

The Chairman received an invitation to attend this year’s Open Day at HMS COLLINGWOOD, the Royal Navy’s training establishment and home to the Maritime Warfare School in Fareham, Hampshire.  Unable to make the journey at the appointed time, the options of passing the invitation to one of our members based in the south of England were investigated and we were fortunately able to arrange for Mr David Muriss and his son Michael to attend, with David representing the Society.  David lives in Harrow and is in his eighties, so it was a pleasing and appropriate way to acknowledge someone who supports us from afar and for whom there is slim chance of ever making one of our meetings in the north-east.   The Royal Navy did us proud too, giving David and Michael the full VIP treatment, with preferrential access to the numerous activities, including the Field Gun competition, the Band of HM Royal Marines and a performance by the Military Wives’ Choir, as well as seating them on the Second Sea Lord’s table for lunch.  David sent us the following snaps from the day.
