‘Workhorse – the 74-gun Ship of the Line’

Tuesday 18th February 2025:   2.00pm at The Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House

Professor George Bruce.

’74’s were found in all the major navies of the Georgian Era.  The ubiquitous, long-lived and much-copied class of warship is examined in this talk, the first to be delivered by Society member Professor George Bruce.  We will learn how the ‘74’ was developed and why it was so popular with admiralties, shipbuilders and seamen alike.  The names of some famous ships of this significant design will make their way into the narrative.

Following our new Winter timing, this is an afternoon event.

Free admission to Society members, £4 admission to visitors.  Light refreshments available.
