Tue 10th March 2022   19:30 The Newcastle upon Tyne Royal Grammar School (The Miller Theatre) This year’s Annual Collingwood Lecture is entitled ‘Women in the Royal Navy’will be delivered by Capt Catherine Jordan RN, Officer Commanding HMS COLLINGWOOD.  From Trafalgar up to modern times, Capt Jordan examines the presence of women on board naval ships and what they officially (and sometimes unofficially) achieved.  Now recognized as an equal and valuable part of the Royal Navy, it was not always so….  
Tue 24th May 2022 19.30      Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne We welcome to the stage another debutant and Society Member, George Cansino, who will tell us aboutJames Saumarez –the man and his achievements.’   Admiral James Saumarez, 1st Baron de Saumarez, was the Guernsey born victor of the 2nd Battle of Algeciras in 1801, later commanding the Baltic Fleet, flying his flag in HMS VICTORY and applying both practical and diplomatic skills to the suppression of French interests in the region.  
Thu 23nd  June 2022   19.30 TVLB Watch House, Tynemouth Summer Outing:  A few years ago, we held one of our talks in the Watch House of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and, reflecting the interest in the building that drew, we have always said we would go back.  Regular attenders of the annual Trafalgar Day ‘Toast the Admiral’ ceremonies at Tynemouth are also used to going in the Watch-House for the convivial and warming ‘soup and sandwiches’ that follow.  We are therefore pleased this year to be going for a full and private guided tour, on which we will learn more about the activities of the Brigade and the history of life-saving at the mouth of the Tyne.  Voluntary donations to the TVLB’s running costs appreciated on the night.  
Tue 6th September 2022   19.30 Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne Society Chairman Capt Stephen Healy delivers a talk on the ‘Trafalgar Medals’ (and other similar awards). In a time before recognized campaign medals, the government was decidedly limited in its opinion on who should receive recognition by award, leaving it to entrepreneurs and capitalists to produced medals for the greater majority.  Jolly Jack too, had a somewhat different attitude towards what he received….     
Thu 15th  September 2022   19.30 The Butter Market Morpeth Town Hall Part of Morpeth’s annual Heritage Days event, free entry to all.   A September double header by the Chairman Capt Stephen Healy‘Collingwood at Trafalgar’.   Our Admiral in the days leading up to, on, and following 21st October 1805.     
Thu 6th October 2022   19.30 Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne We welcome historian Anthea Lang to the Society for the first time, speaking about another son of Gateshead, ‘Admiral Richard Collinson RN.’  Naval Officer, surveyor, Arctic explorer, disciplinarian and with a stubborn nature, Collinson’s highly successful career did not perhaps end as he would have wished. 
Sun 23rd October 2022 15.00 St Mary’s Church (Heritage Centre), Gateshead Annual commemorative event, this one around the memory of John William Trotter, Master of HMS LEVIATHAN at the Battle of Trafalgar, who is buried in the churchyard.  Public event.
Fri 21st October 2022   10.00 The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas, Newcastle upon Tyne Annual short Commemorative Service at the Collingwood bust in the rear of the Church.  Public event.
Fri 21st October 2022   10.30 St Paul’s Cathedral, London Annual service in the Nelson Chamber (close to the NW crypt door).  Principally aimed at the memory of Nelson but wreaths are also laid on the tomb of Collingwood.  Public event.  Please advise the Secretary if you intend to be at this event.  
Fri 21st October 2022   11.30 Collingwood Monument, Tynemouth The annual ‘Toast the Admiral’ event, hosted by North Tyneside Council.  On the midday hour, at which the first shot was fired in the Battle of Trafalgar, raise a glass to our hero.  Public event.  Free grog.
Fri 21st October 2022 11.30 Morpeth Town Hall Annual commemoration in the Butter Market (foyer of the Town Hall), around the Collingwood bust.  Public event.
Wed 9th November 2022   19.30 Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne Terry Walton returns to the lectern, this time with ‘Nautical phrases, slang and idioms’.  Discover where ‘learning the ropes’ came from, what a ‘square meal’ is and why you had to ‘shake a leg’.  There’ll be no need to ‘cut and run’ and we’re sure Terry will come through with ‘flying colours’.   (Note:  There will be a special raffle prize at this meeting).     This meeting will be preceded by the 2022 Annual General Meeting, 18.45 – 19.15. All members welcome, encouraged even, to attend.    
Thu 8th  December 2022   19.30 Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne Christmas Buffet and tour of Trinity House.  A good chance for Society members to have a look around the home of the Collingwood Society, whilst enjoying some pleasant pre-festive fare and good company.   Ticket only event, £7.50 per head (to part cover catering costs).  Details closer to the time.
