“Hawke”

Tuesday 9th July 2024: 7.30pm: the Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House

This is our last meeting before the Summer break.  Society member and regular speaker George Cansino has this time chosen as his subject Edward Hawke, 1st Baron Hawke, KB PC, a colourful and successful man, who combined a naval career with one in Parliament. He is perhaps best remembered for a calculated if risky victory at the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759, although that was but one of several. In his five years as First Lord of the Admiralty, he was credited with bringing the navy’s spending under control.

We look forward to another well-researched talk.

Do spread the word and we look forward to seeing you.

Free admission to Society Members, £3 for guests.
