Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne ‘Collingwood and Menorca’: President of the Asociación Menorca Britannia, Mr Bryce Lyons visits our shores to tell us of matters Collingwood old and new on the island. A friend of many in the Society, Bryce was the moving force behind the island’s substantial contribution to the 2010 Festival.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Royal Grammar School The 5th Annual Collingwood Lecture: ‘The character and role of the Royal Navy in the 21st Century’: Capt. Andy Jordan, RN, Commanding Officer of HMS COLLINGWOOD, the Navy’s Maritime Warfare School, will present the very latest on the Navy’s role, its equipment and strategy with, no doubt ample reference to his own command, which bears our Admiral’s name.

Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House ‘The Boys Manual of Seamanship and Gunnery 1871’: Society member Capt. Sandy Kinghorn examines a definitive training work of the nineteenth century. Although a little later than our Admiral, it contains many elements forged, tried and tested in that earlier time.

Tynemouth Monument The annual ‘Toast the Admiral’ event, hosted by North Tyneside Council. On the midday hour, at which the first shot was fired in the Battle of Trafalgar, raise a glass to our hero. Free grog, additional refreshments in the TVLB watch-house afterwards. Public event.

Trinity House, Newcastle upon Tyne ‘The Great Mutinies’: Society Secretary Dr Tony Barrow examines the controversy surrounding the infamous 1797 mutinies at Spithead and the Nore.

– Most regular talks and other events carry a £2 admission fee for non-members unless alternative arrangements are indicated above. The £2 admission charge will be refunded if the person joins the Society on the night.

– Every effort has been made to list the anticipated times, venues and speakers, based on information available at the time of publication. The Society’s officers accept no liability for changes which may occur through circumstances beyond their control. Any such changes will be advised to all online members by e-mail and published on the Society’s website as soon as known. If time permits, those not online will be advised by letter.

– Trinity House Newcastle (postcode NE1 3DQ) is in Broad Chare, off Newcastle’s Quayside, behind the Law Courts. The Q2 Quaylink bus runs from the City Centre to the Quayside at regular intervals, or parking is recommended at the Quayside car park (free after 5pm).

– The Royal Grammar School (postcode NE2 4DX) is located in Eskdale Terrace, very close to Jesmond Metro Station in Newcastle; parking is normally available on site, courtesy of the school, but this will be confirmed prior to any event.

– The Collingwood Monument and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House (postcode NE30 4DD) are located at the river mouth and accessed via Tynemouth village. Buses run from Newcastle centre to the village. Two car parks are close by out on the headland and buses and the Metro run to Tynemouth village from Newcastle.

– Morpeth Town Hall (postcode NE61 1LZ) is located in the Market Square, Morpeth Collingwood House (postcode NE61 1QF) is within easy walking distance. Trains run to Morpeth from Newcastle, or parking is recommended in the various public car parks around the town. Collingwood House is within easy walking distance.

– The Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas (postcode NE1 1PF) is located in Collingwood Street, Newcastle upon Tyne and is within walking distance of Central Station. Parking is recommended at Dene Street Car Park (NCP charges apply).
