Thursday 9th November 2023: 7.30 pm The Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House:
Nick Johnson BA (Hons) MArborA will tonight give us an unusual take on history, but the topic is nevertheless critically aligned to the Georgian Navy and their insatiable need for good wood of certain species for shipbuilding. Here in the Society too, we are all aware of the stories of Admiral Collingwood tramping acorns into the ground at every opportunity and it seems that every oak tree in Northumberland has his name attached to it. There are other trees with historical significance in our region too and I am sure the sad and recent loss of the Sycamore Gap tree will be included. Perhaps we will all come away from tonight’s talk better informed, both on the science and the legends.
Free admission to Society members, £3 for visitors.
This evening’s talk is preceded by the Society’s 2023 Annual General Meeting at 6.45 pm. All welcome. (The AGM is expected to deal with formalities only and there will be a brief interlude between the two events).
We look forward to seeing you on 5th and please do, as usual, spread the word.
