Menorca: then and now

Tuesday 16th February 2016: The Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House: 19.30

Mr Bryce Lyons, President of the Asociación Menorca Britannia, lands on our shores to tell us about the wonderful Isle of Menorca and its connections, past and present, with our Admiral.  And a bit about Bounce….

The deep and protected harbour of Port Mahon in Menorca was the base for Collingwood’s Mediterranean fleet and the last land he knew before the fateful voyage of the VILLE DE PARIS on which he died in 1810.  Much of the history of the period can still be seen today.

In 2010, the year of the Collingwood Festival, Menorca staged a memorable commemoration of their own, much of it down to Bryce’s (and his lady wife Sheila’s) dedication and organisational skills.

Bryce is a friend to many in the Society, especially those who have visited the Island and is a most welcome guest to our humble gatherings.
