‘Nautical phrases, slang and idioms’

Wednesday 9th November 2022:  The Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House:  7.30pm

(This talk follows on directly from the Society’s 2022 Annual General Meeting, scheduled from 6.45 – 7.15pm)

Society Member Terry Walton returns once again with a talk on the relatively light-hearted but definitely interesting theme of  ‘Nautical phrases, slang and idioms’.

Discover where ‘learning the ropes’ came from, what a ‘square meal’ is and why you had to ‘shake a leg’.  There’ll be no need to ‘cut and run’ and we’re sure you’ll come through with ‘flying colours’.

Assuming we meet a certain minimum on raffle ticket sales on the night, there will be an extra special first prize – a bottle from the first batch of Alnwick Rum & Spirits Company Ltd’s Collingwood Special Reserve – Gunpowder Proof 57% Navy Strength Rum.  Believe me, it’s worth it and you won’t be tempted to give it away as a Christmas present.
