“THE BATTLE OF CAMPERDOWN”

Thursday 12th November 2026:   7.30pm at The Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House

Society member George Cansino has followed a theme in his recent talks, that being various sea battles of the Georgian Era.  This time, he looks at one of two significant battles in 1797, the Battle of Camperdown.  Vice Admiral Adam Duncan played a critical role in the Spithead and Nore mutinies earlier that year, as did his ship HMS VENERABLE, before achieving a bloody victory at Camperdown.  The battle also gave rise to the stories of local hero Jack Crawford, born on Pottery Bank in the East End of Sunderland, although the accuracy of his reported exploits is disputed, as our speaker will no doubt explain.

Free admission to Society members, £4 admission by donation for visitors.

Light refreshments available.
