The Boy’s Manual of Seamanship and Gunnery 1871

Thursday 21st April 2016: The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House: 7.30pm

Society Member Captain Sandy Kinghorn looks at a standard training manual by which many a boy sailor was trained in the last century and a half.  Although dated 1871, many of the practices were defined in Collingwood’s time and are therefore well within our area of interest.  Some are even still in place today, although the manuals have of course been updated!  We are grateful too, to the TVLB, whose newly renovated Watch House will provide an atmospheric backdrop to this talk.
