Trafalgar Commemorations 2017

Trafalgar Commemorations 2017

This year’s Trafalgar Commemorations are spread across two days, due to the 21st itself falling on a Saturday and certain places preferring the nearest week-day, rather than the actual anniversary.

Events at which the Collingwood Society is represented:

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE:   the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas:  Friday 20th: 10.00 hrs:  assemble in the Eastern Chapel at 09.45 hrs for a parade around to the main door and short service and wreath laying by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Linda Wright, at the Collingwood Memorial.

LONDON:  St. Paul’s Cathedral:  Friday 20th: 11.00 hrs:  assemble in the Nelson Chamber (close to the NW crypt door) at 10.30 hrs for a service at the tombs of Admirals Nelson and Collingwood.

TYNEMOUTH:   Collingwood Monument: Saturday 21st: 11.30 hrs:  assemble  around the memorial for the annual ‘Toast the Admiral’ tribute.  Speech by Councillor Cath Davis, Chair of North Tyneside Council and oration by Captain Andy Jordan ADC RN, leading up to the toast at 12.00 noon.

MORPETH:  Town Hall:  Saturday 21st: 11:45 hrs:  join the Mayor and Town Council in marking Trafalgar Day by laying a wreath on the bust of Lord Collingwood in the Town Hall foyer, followed by a toast to the Admiral on the steps of his Morpeth home, Collingwood House in Oldgate at 12.00 noon.

Public events, all welcome.

Please note that the scheduled visit to an RN warship in the river Tyne on Friday 20th October is unfortunately not taking place at this time, due to operational reasons and therefore beyond the control of the Society.
